Glasses

Per page: 12/24/48/All

Glassware for the table: wine glasses, water glasses and tumblers for soft drinks. The category holds 46 items from 65 to 950 ml.

Two kinds of glass

  • Crystalline glass (35 items) – thinner and clearer than ordinary soda glass, and it catches the light better. Lines: Crystalline, Diamond, Shelley and Undina.
  • Thermal glass (11 items) – a double wall, so the glass neither burns the hand nor sweats on the outside. The ThermoGlass line.

Choosing a glass

  • Red wine – a wide 600–680 ml bowl that gives the wine room to breathe.
  • White wine – a narrower 350–450 ml bowl, so the wine warms up more slowly.
  • Water and soft drinks – tumblers of 250–530 ml, some ribbed or hammered.
  • Spirits – small glasses of 65–100 ml.

Separate subcategories collect wine glasses and water glasses. Carafes and decanters are in the wine category.

Gold-rimmed models

Some glasses carry a gold rim. They look festive but need hand washing and must stay out of the microwave – with any gilding, check the product page first.

Washing

35 of the 46 items are dishwasher safe. The other 11, mostly gold-rimmed and decorated pieces, should be washed by hand in lukewarm water. Do not let glasses touch bowl to bowl in the dishwasher – thin glass chips easily.

Frequently asked questions

How is crystalline glass different from crystal?

Crystalline glass contains no lead, yet it is still thin and lets light through well. It suits everyday use and, apart from gilded models, goes in the dishwasher.

How many glasses should I buy?

Six per type of wine is the usual answer. We also sell ready sets of six 680 ml Burgundy glasses.

Do double-walled glasses keep drinks cold?

Yes. The same insulation that protects your hand from heat slows down the warming of cold drinks and stops condensation forming outside.
